"The humble veteran Bruce McGuire has been making Syrah for decades, and this bottling offers stunning value. Lively aromas of tart black plum skins, white pepper, tar and rainy asphalt lead into a refreshingly acidic though complex sip with flavors of lavender, potpourri and blackberry juice that float across the palate."

" Slate and crushed earth tones permeate from start to finish in this racy, intensely mineral Riesling. Just a shade off dry on the palate, it offers concentrated tangerine and lemon-skin flavors offset by a steely tang. This vibrant wine should open and improve through 2022. "

"This wine's bold black fruit aromas are a touch clipped. Its saturated palate offers a massive mouthful of berry fruit and tannins and chocolate notes. On the finish, it's peppery, toasty and stout. Serve this always reliable Malbec blend with grilled beef in the Argentino style."

"Juicy cherry and raspberry flavors are fresh and bright, with a smooth, supple body and notes of clove, cherry cola and vanilla bean. Polished and elegant, with a long finish. Drink now through 2027. 20,000 cases made."

"Sourced from several appellations, including the producer's heritage Russian River Valley site, this wine offers smoky oak, bacon and blackberry jam flavors. Thick and florally perfumed, it balances its brawnier side with spice."

"The 2012 Viña Real Reserva is a blend of mostly Tempranillo with Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano from Rioja Alavesa; it fermented in stainless steel and aged in new oak barriques for 22 months with rackings every four months. I found the whole Viña Real range pretty closed and backward, serious, with moderate oak and pretty good balance. There is good ripeness without any excess or signs of heat (it was a very dry year), with some floral aromas coming out with time in the glass. Fine and elegant, quite a surprise. "

"Sleek and supple, with black cherry and dark chocolate aromas and layered plum and orange zest flavors that linger toward polished tannins. Drink now through 2020. 12,000 cases made."

"There is more than fruit here, there is some expression of the soil, with subtle nuances and more complexity, hints of aromatic herbs and lower in alcohol (13%). The profile of all the wines is very clean, precise, juicy with good acidity. This is a superb example of it, with even some chalky sensations in the texture. Great value too."

"Quite rich in texture and generous in flavor, this medium-bodied wine has notes of black cherry, toasted baguette and pomegranate. These flavors mingle with the broad mouthfeel, offering depth and layering that leads to a lingering finish. Best Buy. "

"Barrel aromas are at the fore, with notes of vanilla, cocoa and milk chocolate out in front of blackberry and black cherry. The palate also mixes fruit and barrel, showing pleasing depth of flavors and intensity along with a silky texture."
